Who runs DailymotionDownloader, how a Dailymotion link becomes an MP4 in your browser, and the limits we keep on purpose.
DailymotionDownloader is a small, single-purpose web tool. Paste the address of a public Dailymotion video, choose a quality, and your browser saves it as an MP4. There are no extra products around it: no app to install, no saved library, no paid upgrade.
Why we built it
Dailymotion lets anyone watch a public video but gives no built-in way to keep one for later. The sites that offer to help often make it worse, with pop-up windows, adverts disguised as download buttons, a forced sign-up, or an "HD" choice that delivers a low-quality copy.
Saving a public video should not need any of that, and it should not mean handing over information about yourself. We wanted a version that simply does the job, so we made one.
What happens when you press Download
- The address is checked. It has to point at a single Dailymotion video: a dailymotion.com address, a dai.ly short link, or an embedded player. Channels, playlists and other sites are turned away before anything is fetched.
- The public details are fetched. Our server asks Dailymotion for what its own player would get: the title, the channel, the cover image and the qualities on offer.
- Your browser builds the file. Dailymotion delivers video in short pieces, not as one download. When you pick a quality, those pieces come through our relay to your browser, which joins them, with the sound track where it is separate, into one MP4. No re-encoding takes place, and Dailymotion sees our server's address rather than yours for the video itself.
Four promises
Our servers keep no video
Stream segments pass through our relay without being written anywhere, and the MP4 is put together on your own device. There is no store of past downloads for anyone to leak or demand.
No one is watching
No accounts, cookies, analytics or ad scripts. Your browser keeps your theme choice, plus a temporary copy of a file while it is being built, and that copy is deleted shortly afterwards.
The picture is left alone
Video and sound are copied into the MP4 as Dailymotion encoded them. Nothing is re-compressed, enlarged or stamped with a logo.
Nothing to unlock
Every quality is available to everyone straight away. No sign-up, no waiting screen, and no premium tier.
Limits we keep on purpose
- Only public videos. Private, password-protected and region-restricted videos, and videos whose owner allows playback only in Dailymotion's player, are refused. We will not build a way around those choices.
- The best copy is Dailymotion's best. The top quality offered is the top quality Dailymotion streams, which may be lower than the file that was uploaded. A 720p stream stays 720p.
- A single video per link. Whole channels, playlists and batch downloads are not offered, and a live broadcast can only be saved once a recording of it is published.
- Dailymotion can break it. If Dailymotion changes how it delivers video, lookups may fail until we update the tool.
- Lookups are capped. Each address gets a fixed number of lookups a minute, which stops one script from getting the service blocked for everyone else.
Before you use a downloaded video
Having a file is not the same as having permission. The person who published a video still owns it, and Dailymotion's terms forbid downloading without permission from Dailymotion or the rights holder. Keep copies of your own uploads and of videos you have been allowed to keep, and do not republish other people's work. Our guide to the legal side explains more.
